Do you review and analyze your competitor’s website? You should. I do. I always keep an eye on the business across the street, or in my case, across the internet. Earning links is not about following a static link building strategy for a long time. In the landscape of Google’s ever changing algorithms, sticking with just one or two tactics for link building is not going to help you in any way. There is definitely no hard and fast rule or way to get you tons of high valued and qualified links. But all too often, when we want to improve our site SEO, we fall prey to “quick-fixes”, just as we do when we’re enticed by fad diets. Search Engine Optimization, or SEO, is an integral part of any digital marketing strategy. It is a crucial element in organically driving customers to your businesses via online platforms. In other words, it's modern day marketing!
Focus on being helpful and answering whatever question your customer might have asked
Once the Search Engines crawls the web and comes across the new pages, it then indexes or stores the information in its giant database categorically, to be retrieved later when any search query related to it comes up. These giant database storage facilities is capable of processing large amount of information really quickly. Google only show sitelinks for results when they think they’ll be useful to the user. If the structure of your site doesn’t allow Google's algorithms to find good sitelinks, or they don’t think that the sitelinks for your site are relevant for the user’s query, Google won’t show them. If you want to link to somebody but you don’t want it to count as a vote (you don’t want to pass link-juice), or you support user-generated content and want to deter spammers, you can use a nofollow link. Google says it discounts the value of those links. I’m not convinced they discount them heavily, but other SEOs are so they seem to deter spammers if nothing else. Keyword density is no longer important and you should stop any and all strategies aiming at stuffing keywords into your content.
Choose the broad topics you want to rank for
You can de-index any types of content that have less than 100 words. This might be the #1 suggestion for most businesses that have not done any SEO. For WordPress websites you can use the Yoast SEO plugin for this. Scan through your website and make a list of all the relatable keywords. Then, make a list of all the potential keywords keeping your niche in mind. If you are already clear with your business/product/service offerings, then keyword selection is all the more easy. The more fresh, engaging and authoritative content on your website the better regarded it will be by search engines. If you need search engine optimisation help for your small business website, consider working with an SEO agency or hiring an SEO freelancer. This can be a complex area, and it pays to get it right.
Make your website easy to access and well organized
What is the first thing that you do when you want to learn more about a product? What do you do when you're trying to find the solution to a problem? The vast majority of people carries out a search on Google or another search engine. Gut, brain, intuition, emotional intelligence, whatever you want to call it, humans can’t be beat for determining relevance. Over the years, I’ve gotten very far with my on-page SEO strategy. You’d be surprised: Smart on-page SEO and especially internal link structure can get you amazing results in search engines. Gaz Hall, from SEO Hull, had the following to say: "Despite countless claims over the years that have proclaimed the death of link building it is still very much alive and kicking. Not only is it still alive but it remains one of the most important ranking factors and is in the top two factors in Google’s ranking algorithm. Over the years there have been many dubious link building practices such as link farming, buying links, comment linking on blogs and many other low effort practices."
To make a website stand out in the depth of the internet is the hardest job for everyone who runs an online business. There’s no magic recipe that can be applied and give sustainable results. However, search engines tend to reward those websites that bring a real value to their users. While the Meta keyword and Meta description tags aren’t used as a ranking factor, Meta tags do still continue to have a use when it comes to SEO. The Meta keywords tag can be ignored but the Meta description tag should be used to help entice users to click on your page. A good Meta tag should be under 160 characters in length and provide a synopsis of the content on the page. Think of your Meta tag as a short elevator pitch that you can use to drive people to your website. Anchor text gives search engines an indication about the content on the page that the link is leading to. Do not overstuff your anchor text with keywords and nor use very generic keywords. Choose your keywords wisely. Browse your own site for a while and try to click on every button, image and link to see what happens. Is everything working as expected?
